Movies Movies Movies

We have been so behind on movies all Summer. Just when we think we have caught up, more great movies come out on DVD or hit the theaters. But in the past few weeks, thanks to a serious lack of good TV, we have been filling our evenings with movies and are slowly catching up! Below are three movies that I just have to comment on.

Country Strong
I know I am really late on sharing my thoughts on Country Strong, but somehow it was buried deep in my Netflix Queue. Fortunately, it finally arrived and we watched it last weekend. I love country music, Tim McGraw, and Gwyneth Paltrow so I had very high hopes for this movie. But I was really surprised by how depressing the story was. So depressing that it was almost hard to watch at times. I wanted to literally shake the characters at some points during the movie but still thought it was a great film. I recommend seeing it if you haven't already and most of all I recommend the Country Strong soundtrack! I downloaded it as soon as we finished the movie and cannot get enough of it! I was very impressed by Gwyneth and her incredible voice but that came as no surprise to me. What surprised me most was how talented Garrett Hedlund is. His voice is incredible and perfect for country music. I only wish he was on the soundtrack more!

The HelpRun, don't walk, to the nearest theater to see The Help. I will admit that I did not have high hopes for this film. The book is one of my favorite books of all time so I figured the movie couldn't possibly measure up. I am so happy to report I was wrong! I saw it with my friend Elise, who also read the book, and we both agreed that it was a great representation of the book. I think they included the best parts of the book to get the story across. I also think the cast could not be more perfect to play the characters from the book. Emma Stone made the absolute perfect Skeeter. This time period in the South was so great to see on screen. I couldn't get enough of the dresses, the hair, the sweet tea, and fried chicken. Most importantly, it makes me so happy to know that this story will reach a much wider audience. It's such a powerful and important story that I think everyone should read or see!

One Day
The hopeless romantic in me cannot resist this movie that just came out in theaters. It tells the story of two people who experience friendship and love across a span of twenty years and all of the trailers have me sold. It also doesn't hurt that Jim Sturgess is one of my celebrity crushes. I know he's not your typical Hollywood stud, but for some reason, I can't get enough of his movies. Maybe it's his accent or maybe it's the fact that he sang all of my favorite Beatles songs in Across the Universe. I just can't wait to see him and Anne Hathaway in this movie!

What are your thoughts on these movies? Any others you recommend?

  4. So glad you enjoyed Country Strong, loved that movie! I agree about The Help too, they did a fantastic job with the story.

I really want to see One Day too, but haven't read the book yet, so I'll probably have to wait for that one on DVD. I just bought the book, but with the beginning of school I know I won't be able to finish it in time.

Now, you just have to see Bridesmaids!

  7. I think we watched Country Strong on the same weekend. I snuck it into our Netflix que! I had the same feelings about it- I was expecting a better story. And why does my boyfriend Tim always play such jerks? I think I'm going to go see The Help this weekend with my mom. So excited!

  8. I agree with everything you've said about The Help!! I'm so glad you wrote about the book here, on your blog. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had such a strong connection to it, as I did. I think people who DON'T read the book miss a lot, but it was still a great movie!!
